A Thought from Yours Truly

Just the other day (Sunday June 12, 2016) we all woke up to the horrible news of the mass shooting in Orlando. That whole morning I sat intently in front of the tv, watching as the news was released. With every minute, more devastating facts were uncovered and more hearts were broken. Finally, after I turned off the news, I took to social media and sure enough, my feeds were filled with prayers and updates. Later that day, my friends and I talked about it for quite a while after seeing the news spread over every outlet possible. By the end of the day, I came to the realization of how much this actually affected me. While Orlando might be hundreds of miles away from my hometown and no one I knew was involved, this tragedy will forever be a part of me. Why? Because I am a citizen of the US and I will always be able to say (with great sorrow) that I was alive when largest shooting in our country's history took place. That's why I feel it is necessary for not only myself, but other Americans to recognize this tragic event- to show support for those whose lives were even more greatly affected by this. I want to show that I am aware, that I care and, more importantly, contribute to proving that love will always win. Even in the midst of horror, love conquers all in the form of unity and hope for a brighter future.
